What is Kibbit?
A little companion for your Mac: a pixel art creature who lives in his own little room, in a corner of your desktop. Some call him a desktop pet, but he's more of a friend: he chats with you using the AI you choose, reminds you of your to-dos and meetings, and when you don't need him he lives his life: he sleeps, waters his little plant and plays on his tiny arcade machine. It's free and needs no account.
Do I need to know about AI?
No. The AI is what gives Kibbit a voice. Without it he lives his life in his room, lets you know about your meetings and looks after his little plant; with it, he also talks with you, schedules things for you and helps with your files. The first time you open him, he walks you through connecting one step by step, and the simplest, Ollama, is free. You can also start without one and connect it later.
What do I need to use him?
A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 13 Ventura or later, and a way for Kibbit to think: Claude Code, Ollama or an API key. The app's welcome walks you through it step by step.
How much does the AI cost?
It depends on which you choose. Ollama runs on your Mac and is free. Claude Code uses your own Claude account. With an API key, each service charges you directly for what you use. Kibbit keeps none of it.
Can he see my files or my screen?
He can read and search your files to answer you. He sees your screen when you send him a screenshot, or when he needs it to help you if you gave him macOS's Screen Recording permission; you can turn it off in Settings. Anything that changes something (editing, moving, running a command, scheduling an event) he asks you about first, with a card.
Does he remind me of my meetings?
Yes. If you give him access to your calendar, he leaves his room with a note a few minutes before, with a button to join the meeting. He can also add, move and delete events, always asking you first.
What happens if I pay for Support Kibbit?
You get a key by email. Paste it into Kibbit (Settings → Support Kibbit) and the scenes, skins, plants and furniture unlock for good, and so do the ones we add later. It's one purchase that counts everywhere: the same key works on your other Macs and, when it's out, in the iPhone app.
Is there an iPhone or Windows version?
For now it's for Mac. iPhone and Apple Watch are in the plans.
